The filmmaking community in the Rio Grande Valley has grown considerably over the years. No doubt, annual events like Cinesol’s film festival and especially the 36 Hour Film race have played a major role. The South Texas Film Alliance would like to bring new challenges and greater opportunity for local media artists. Our efforts include trying to reach a broader audience and provide greater exposure for works from local talent. We emphasize quality filmmaking in both technical execution and effective storytelling, and we like to recognize works that demonstrate exceptional skill and craftsmanship. As filmmakers we should always apply a higher level of scrutiny to our work and become better aware of presentation quality.
This fall we’re introducing a unique theme-based film festival. HauntFest! It’s a dark-themed festival showcasing original short films which focus on ghosts, hauntings, and the supernatural. The festival is open to all filmmakers anywhere in the world, and all films compete for top honors. Competing films will be screened at a Halloween weekend special event. Valley filmmakers have always shown incredible creative drive and we hope to see some great ghost stories this October!
As the site grows, we would like to create an online community where filmmakers from around the globe can share their knowledge, experience, and creative vision. If you’re a filmmaker or creative artist we hope that you’ll joins us and share your unique perspective and vision!
